Why I’m with DATTALION

The founder of our law firm – Dr Vasil Kisil – often quoted the ancient Roman maxim: law is the art of goodness and fairness. Before the war, our team helped to invest billions in the Ukrainian economy, develop infrastructure, farm agricultural production etc. A bit pathetically, but I like to treat it as legal assistance to goodness. Now, it’s time to apply our legal capacity to justice. DATTALION spreads truth, which helps Ukraine to win this unprovoked war and force russia to pay for its crimes.”

We must not forget Russia’s crimes against Ukraine. This genocide has been going on for centuries: the Holodomor, torture, and concentration camps for the Ukrainian intelligentsia are proof of that. Why I’m with DATTALION

I spent a week in Kyiv suburbs before we could head West. I would fall asleep not knowing if I would wake up – I wish no one else has to experience this. Information is my only weapon, and with it I want to fight russia, it’s propaganda and misinformation until Ukraine wins.

Why I’m with DATTALION

I work in tech in Silicon Valley, and before that I had a career in national security, working on crises and wars around the world. As a result, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the digital frontlines of modern wars. Now, as a woman with Ukrainian heritage, it feels like a tragic turn of events – and an immense privilege – to find myself on Ukraine’s digital frontlines.

DATTALION is the most important project I’ve ever been a part of. I’m constantly awed by the team around me – these impressive, powerful women, who have given up everything to tell Ukraine’s story and advocate for its survival.

Mary-Eve McNerney

Deanna Rakowsky (Zawilinski)

Director of PR, Board Member, DATTALION US LTD

Deanna is a Ukrainian-American, born and raised within the Ukrainian community in the Tri-State area. Both sides of her parents’ families were refugees who arrived in the US via present-day Slovakia and Germany shortly after World War II.

Deanna is a public relations and integrated marketing professional with over twelve years of experience building strategy across various sectors, including consumer technology, beauty, fashion, and wellness. She has a bachelor’s degree in communications, with concentrations in public relations and journalism, from Boston College, and is earning her master’s degree in writing from Johns Hopkins University. Deanna is writing a novel that toggles between present-day “Little Ukraine” in New York City and Ukraine in the early 1930s during the Holodomor, the Great Famine that killed millions.

When she’s not working or writing, Deanna is helping to run a Ukrainian folk dance ensemble in San Francisco, CA. She is also a lifelong member of the Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization.

Why I’m with DATTALION

Although I grew up in America, being Ukrainian was always in my heart and soul. It was the best part of myself that I took every chance to share with others through folk dancing and cultural traditions. About a week after the war started, I was introduced to DATTALION through another volunteer. I was moved by stories of bravery and resilience that these women – mothers and wives – showed in the face of evil. They risked their lives every day while I lived safely in America. I knew I had to help. DATTALION has evolved into something incredible. It’s given me a purpose in the fight against Russia and a united sisterhood devoted to helping our motherland and people persevere.

Why I’m with DATTALION

Despite being born in the United States, my Ukrainian heritage is an integral part of who I am today. It helped shape my memories, brought me friends that turned into family, and provided me a sense of pride and strength that many never have the privilege of experiencing. As the country’s anthem notes – Ukraine has not yet perished, nor her glory or freedom – and through my work with DATTALION, it provides me hope that I will never have to fear it will.

Paola Sisco

Advocacy Team Member

Paola Sisco was inspired to volunteer with Dattalion when she heard accounts of the mothers who left Ukraine to deliver their children to safety only to return to the frontlines in order to document the atrocities of Russia’s war against their homeland.

After graduating from Belmont University’s Massey School of Business, Paola spent a decade working in the healthcare administration industry until she and her family relocated to the Bay Area in California where she dedicated herself to raising her three children.

Now living in Seattle, Washington, Paola enjoys spending time improving her pottery skills, formalizing her wine education and developing recipes for an upcoming pop up food project.

Why I’m with DATTALION

For a long time, ‘heroism’ to me felt like a term that had been watered down by overuse. However, when I learned of the sacrifices made by Dattalion’s frontline moms, I found a display of heroism that deeply resonated with me. These women, these heroes, moved me and their continued bravery and dedication to family and country inspire me every day.
