russian strike on Lviv kills six civilians

This week, a russian missile struck the peaceful city of Lviv in western Ukraine, killing six people, including a ninety-five-year-old woman, and injuring 40 others. The eldest of the victims, the ninety-five-year-old woman, was a survivor of World War Two. The rocket struck an apartment building, an act of terrorism that emphasizes russia’s pattern of striking civilian targets.

To prevent more attacks like this, Ukraine needs more air defense systems and modern fighter jets.

Zelenskyy visits Snake Island to mark the 500th day of the war

To commemorate the 500th day of the war, President Zelenskyy visited Snake Island. Snake Island was the location of one of the first moments of heroic Ukrainian resistance at the beginning of the war when its defenders told a russian warship to go f*** itself after being given the ultimatum to surrender. The island was occupied by russians before it was liberated by Ukraine, a point President Zelenskyy made in his promise that all occupied territory would be returned just like Snake Island.

Ukraine returns heroes of Mariupol from Turkey

This week, President Zelenskyy visited Turkey and returned to Ukraine accompanied by five heroic commanders who fought during the siege of Mariupol. The heroes of Ukraine had previously been freed in a prisoner exchange with russia but the terms of their release stated that they had to remain in Turkey for the duration of the war. However, due to successful negotiations between President Zelenskyy and Turkish President Erdogan, the commanders are now home in Ukraine to be reunited with their country and their families.

More Aid for Ukraine

The United States has announced another military aid package for Ukraine. This package includes air defense munitions, anti-tank weapons, and cluster munitions. All of these items will be transferred immediately.  Foregoing public media attention, Poland, a staunch ally of Ukraine, quietly transferred around a dozen MI-24 helicopter gunships to Ukraine. Ukraine already operates this model of aircraft so this will be a helpful boost to its current fleet. The UK has also promised to send more firefighting equipment to Ukraine.

Continued Gains for Ukraine on the Battlefield

Ukraine continues to make careful, steady gains in several directions on the battlefield, advancing positively but also deliberately to protect the lives of defenders. The AFU has begun an advance towards Yakovlivka in the Soledar direction in Donetsk Oblast. There have also been steady advances in the Bakhmut direction, particularly on both flanks of the city.
