Ukraine replaces ussr symbol with Ukrainian Trident on Mother Ukraine monument

In a significant symbolic move, Ukraine has replaced the symbol of the soviet union on the motherland monument with a trident. This is a very important symbolic gesture because it shows russia that Ukraine rejects russia’s revisionist narratives and takes pride in its individual history, culture, and social background. Ukraine has its own identity and this symbolic move is another step in decoupling from russia’s imperialist ambitions.

russian terrorism continues with attacks on multiple Ukrainian cities

This week, russia launched several terror attacks against Ukrainian cities. A barbaric attack on an apartment building in Kryvyi Rih resulted in five fatalities, two of them were a mother and her ten-year-old daughter. In Kherson, shelling by russia hit a hospital and killed a doctor. On August 5th, russia targeted a blood transfusion center in the city of Kupyansk, Kharkiv Oblast. The terrorist strike resulted in both dead and wounded. Ukraine needs more air defense systems and modern aircraft to protect its civilians and civilian infrastructure against these types of attacks.

Croatia steps in to help Ukraine continue to export grain

After russia went back on its word and terminated the grain deal brokered by Turkey and the UN which allows Ukrainian grain to be exported to other countries, Croatia has stepped in to help. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry declared that an agreement has been secured with Croatia to export Ukrainian grain through Croatian ports. This is a significant decision because Ukraine is known as the breadbasket of Europe and its grain exports play a pivotal role in helping prevent food insecurity in many countries. The continued export of grain will also help the Ukrainian agricultural industry.

Boost in military and financial aid

Slovakia has handed over two newly-produced Zuzana self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine this week. The weapons are the first two of sixteen whose production for Ukraine has been jointly funded by Denmark, Germany, and Norway. Lithuania has announced a new assistance package for Ukraine that includes NASAM systems and other equipment to help bolster Ukraine’s defenses. The United States has provided Ukraine with a financial grant of over 1 billion dollars via the World Bank’s Multi-Donor Trust Fund.

Ukraine strikes another russian warship

Another russian warship will not be able to fulfill its combat duties after a successful strike by Ukraine. The Olenegorsky Gornyak stationed in Novorossiysk in russia was struck by a Ukrainian naval drone overnight. This is the first time that Ukraine has used a naval drone to strike at such a great distance. While the ship did not sink and join the Moskva, videos show it listing to one side and having to be towed. It is reported that the ship has been significantly damaged and will not be able to perform its combat duties.
